Matthew Giordano

Matt serves as an audit partner for a number of KPMG’s largest asset management clients in Boston, New York and Chicago. He also serves as the Deputy Lead Partner for KPMG’s Public Investment Management Practice. Matt has has approximately 20 years of experience in the investment management industry providing professional services to the complete spectrum of investment management clients, including registered mutual funds, business development companies, hedge funds, private equity and venture capital funds. Matt has recently spent two years in KPMG’s Audit Quality and Professional Practice Group, where he supported audit teams with technical accounting, audit and regulatory issues. Prior to joining KPMG, Matt spent 5 years at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission where he was the former Chief Accountant for the Division of Investment Management. In this position, Matt was responsible for interpreting new accounting regulations and directing the financial reporting and accounting practices of investment companies in compliance with the federal securities laws.

Jamie Lynn Walter

Partner, Investment Funds

Jamie Lynn Walter is the founding partner of the Washington, D.C., Investment Funds group. Her practice focuses on securities regulation, with particular emphasis on the structuring, management, and operation of investment advisers, private funds, and registered investment funds. Jamie has represented some of the world’s largest asset managers on a wide range of regulatory and compliance matters, and has successfully counseled clients through complex SEC examinations and enforcement investigations. She also provides guidance on regulatory matters related to the acquisition and structuring of portfolio company investments. Prior to joining Kirkland, Jamie most recently served as Senior Counsel in the Private Funds Branch of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Investment Management. While at the SEC, Jamie was responsible for providing significant legal guidance on a wide range of matters involving investment advisers and investment funds, including private funds, mutual funds and exchange-traded funds. She worked closely with the SEC’s Division of Enforcement and Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations (OCIE) on examinations and enforcement matters. She was also key member of several SEC rulemakings. Jamie is a lecturer on private fund regulation at Howard University School of Law and a frequent speaker on regulatory issues related to the asset management industry.

Elizabeth Ming

Elizabeth is a Managing Director in KPMG’s Asset Management practice. She has 13 years of experience serving public and private clients. Elizabeth has overseen numerous audits of private equity, venture capital and private debt funds as well as their advisers. Elizabeth’s experience also includes assurance services related to initial public offerings, special purpose acquisition companies and business development companies. Elizabeth is a leader in KPMG’s rapidly growing ESG and impact investing assurance practice. In this role, she oversees the development and delivery of ESG-related training, advises clients in developing best practices for impact measurement and reporting and leads teams engaged to provide ESG and impact investing assurance services.

Eric Goldberg

Eric is a partner in KPMG’s Los Angeles office and has been with the firm for 19 years. He specializes in providing audit services to business development companies, mutual funds, private equity funds, hedge funds, investment advisors, and broker dealers. Eric recently spent three years in KPMG’s Audit Quality & Professional Practice Group (AQPP) in New York, where he was a member of various technical accounting topic teams focused on investment companies and financial services.

John Gimigliano

Principal, Washington National Tax

John Gimigliano is principal in charge of the Federal Legislative & Regulatory Services group in KPMG LLP's (KPMG) Washington National Tax practice and a co-lead of the KPMG Tax Governance Institute. During John’s more than 20 years of experience, he has represented clients in tax matters before Congress, the IRS, the Department of Treasury, and other federal agencies. Prior to joining KPMG in 2008, he was Senior Tax Counsel for the Committee on Ways and Means and Staff Director for the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures in the U.S. House of Representatives. His principal responsibilities with the committee focused on issues involving corporate taxation, including cost recovery, accounting methods, tax credits, corporate reorganizations, energy, the corporate alternative minimum tax, net operating losses, and several other areas. During his tenure on the committee, John was involved in the drafting, negotiation, and enactment of several pieces of tax legislation, including the Energy Policy Act of 2005; the Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation Act (TIPRA); the Katrina Emergency Tax Relief Act of 2005; the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006; the Small Business and Work Opportunity Act of 2007; the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 and several others. John is a sought-after speaker at tax and industry conferences and has been a guest on Bloomberg Television, the Diane Rehm Show, and NPR’s Marketplace, and has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The Washington Post on the topics of taxation and tax policy. He is also host of the popular KPMG Catching Up on Capitol Hill podcast series. John is an adjunct professor at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he teaches the course Taxation of Energy Markets for the LLM program and where he earned his LLM degree in taxation. He earned his JD degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law and his BA degree from Miami University. He is a board member of the NYU Institute on Federal Taxation as well as The Tax Council.

Brenda Tran

Brenda is an Audit Managing Director in KPMG’s Los Angeles Alternative Investments practice. She has over 15 years of financial services audit experience across four countries. Brenda started her career in Toronto, auditing clients in the retail, distribution and manufacturing industries. In 2006, she joined KPMG in the Cayman Islands office and began to specialize in alternative investments. From there, she transferred to the Luxembourg investment management practice and managed a portfolio of clients including hedge funds, private equity funds, securitization vehicles, mutual funds, real estate companies, and investment management companies. In California, Brenda has worked in KPMG’s San Francisco and Los Angeles offices, servicing hedge funds, private equity funds and venture capital funds.

James Suglia

National Sector Leader, Alternative Investments

Jim is the National Sector Leader for the Alternative Investments Management practice and is also a member of the firm’s Global Investment Management Executive Leadership team. Prior to his current role, Jim was the U.S. Advisory Industry Leader for Investment Management. While in this position, the U.S. Investment Management Advisory practice doubled, and its portfolio of capabilities significantly expanded. He joined the firm in 2000 and was admitted to the partnership as a principal in 2004. With more than 25 years of industry experience, Jim has served an extensive roster of both mutual fund and alternative investment clients and has also been involved in the strategic planning for the investment management sector and the financial services LOB. Jim also serves as an at-large partner for KPMG’s Pension Strategy and Investment Committee, which assists the board’s Compensation and Pension Committee in discharging its responsibilities in relation to the firm’s pension benefit plans.

Ruth Tang

Ruth Tang is an Audit partner in KPMG LLP’s New York Real Estate and Construction practice. She began her career with KPMG in 2001 and has experience providing financial statement audits, as well as internal control, due diligence, and environment, social and governance (ESG) advisory services.

Ruth’s clients include building and civil construction contractors, developers, owner/operators, and real estate private equity funds. Her experience includes managing the audits of entities with multinational operations.

Ruth’s tenure with KPMG included a three-year rotation in the Department of Professional Practice, a KPMG national office, where she consulted engagement teams on complex accounting, financial reporting and SEC matters, developed interpretative guidance for publication in KPMG’s professional accounting literature, and designed and presented technical training through webcasts and share forums for internal and external audiences. In addition to her client responsibilities, Ruth is part of the leadership team for KPMG IMPACT and has been conducting sustainability education across the country. She currently leads the New York area ESG advisory and assurance engagements for KPMG, and is part of the firm’s representation at the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB). She is very involved in the firm’s initiatives around culture, inclusion, and diversity.

Ruth is a frequent speaker at conferences, a guest lecturer at New York University, and has co-authored a number of publications for KPMG including, Real Estate Accounting Reporting and Tax: The Impact of New Standards and Guidance and Opportunity Zones: Unlocking New Opportunities.

Ruth is a certified public accountant in New York and New Jersey. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the New Jersey State of Certified Public Accountants. Ruth has a BS degree in accounting and information systems from New York University.
