U.S. President Donald Trump has announced his intention to impose 25 per cent tariffs on all goods from Canada and Mexico, starting on February 1, 2025. Tariffs would have immediate and far-reaching implications for Canadian businesses operating across the border. Companies may need to analyze their exposure and reassess their supply chains and pricing strategies to mitigate the impact of increased costs. In addition to any short-term disruptions, there are broader, long-term considerations that will require thoughtful and strategic planning, including the reevaluation of trade partnerships and agreements. On a larger economic scale, such tariffs could affect investment or expansion in Canada, stifling growth and innovation within the economy. KPMG is dedicated to supporting Canada’s business community as we navigate these changing circumstances. This webcast presented by KPMG tax, legal and advisory leaders will provide a wide range of perspectives on U.S. tariffs and considerations for navigating the path forward:
- Trade & Customs: Comprehensive strategies that can help optimize supply chains, mitigate impact, and recover applicable tariffs.
- Transfer pricing: Assess transfer pricing exercises to consider strategic structures and policies that go beyond compliance.
- Supply chain: Enhance supply chain resiliency to strengthen business continuity and proactive planning opportunities.
- Risk services: Adhere to regulatory compliance requirements internally and when managing third party suppliers, including contract assessment and dispute resolution.
Suggested audience: Canadian businesses exporting goods to the U.S., including large multinationals and small and medium-sized enterprises. This webcast is eligible for CPD credits for participants who meet the eligibility criteria.
The Honourable Bill Morneau Former Minister of Finance for Canada
