Abstract:
Transparent Cloud Tiering(TCT)is a feature developed in conjunction with z/OS and DFSMShsm that provides server-less movement of archive and backup data directly to an object storage solution. Offloading the movement of the data from the host to the DS8000 unlocks DFSMShsm efficiencies and saves z/OS MIPS. Instead of traditional tape volumes that have used before, TCT migrates data at the data set level to the object store. By using this capability, users can bypass many tape-centric architectural guidelines and remove the need for activities such as Recycle, 16 K block resizing, and serial access. The cloud target for this solution can be a public cloud such as IBM Cloud, a private cloud built from IBM Cloud Object Storage, an IBM TS7700, or a variety of other cloud destinations. In this webinar, IBM technical experts will provide a deeper description of how TCT works and a live demonstration of how z/OS systems managed storage actively moves data into and out of the cloud.
