Abstract:
Our society has become highly dependent on electrical power. Directly or indirectly this impacts the average person, as well as businesses and government agencies at virtually every level, making reliability a primary mandate.
Nonetheless, in today’s energy conscious and environmentally-aware world, today’s power management systems need to be agile to accommodate sustainable energy sources, such as solar and wind, which by their very nature are intermittent. Therefore, power management systems must be intelligent to adapt to more dynamic power sources. Moreover, the facility power infrastructure must be flexible when it comes to accommodating variable demands and potential capacity increases over the expected operational life of the facility.
As a result, many new facilities are considering customized modular power systems which allow them to cost effectively and seamlessly meet these challenges.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the requirements of integrating intermittent power sources into a facility power management system.
- Apply how energy storage and custom switchgear can maintain power availability from renewable power sources.
- Discover how flexible modular power systems can simplify adding renewable energy sources in the future.
- Recognize the factors that influence the decision to use renewable energy.
