Steve Whitelaw, Vice President of Industry and Partner Relations, is responsible for industry and partner relations strategies for the Canadian marketplace. Prior to Applied, Whitelaw was Vice President, IT Planning, Execution & Operational Effectiveness at Travelers Canada. Over his career at Travelers Canada, he served several executive roles focused on strategic planning and execution, personal lines and business solutions. In addition, Whitelaw has actively participated on many industry association boards and committees, including Health Claims for Automobile Insurance Processing (HCAIP) and most recently as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Centre for the Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO). Whitelaw holds a bachelor’s degree in Science and a master’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo.

Graham Haigh

Graham Haigh launched his insurance career in British Columbia in 1994 after earning his Bachelor’s degree from Simon Fraser University and attaining his FCIP and CAIB designations. He is a past President of the Insurance Institute of BC and an award winning instructor for the Insurance Institute of Canada’s CIP program.
He joined Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company in 2009 as Regional Vice President for BC & Yukon. In 2015, Graham moved with his family to Winnipeg to run Wawanesa’s Central region. He accepted the role of Vice President, Broker Distribution in 2019, a position in which his passion for leadership and business strategy drive his goal toward achieving a world-class sales culture.
Graham is an avid supporter of the broker channel and believes in its resilience. He looks forward to our discussion about navigating this challenging time together.

Joseph Carnevale

Joseph became an Insurance Broker in 2005. He achieved his CIP (Chartered Insurance Professional) designation in 2009 and his R.I.B.O. Level 2 (Unrestricted) License in 2011. In addition to his duties serving his clients as their Account Executive, Joseph also serves as Director of Sales for the Brokerage and looks after 65 sales people and a member of the day to day Management Team.
Joseph became a Certified John Maxwell Team Coach in 2018 to assist in his team’s personal and sales development. He also serves as the Deputy Principal Broker since 2011 and became a Partner of Brokers Trust Insurance Group in 2018.
Joseph served on the Complaints Committee for RIBO from 2010 to 2019; served as the Toronto and York Region Director in 2018 and as President-Elect for the IBAO for 2019 and now President for 2020.
Joseph has raised well over $23,000 for Prostate Cancer Canada through Movember Canada and the Ride to Conquer Cancer. Joseph has three daughters and enjoys cycling, running and traveling.

David re-joined Canadian Underwriter as Editor-in-Chief in November 2017. He was previously Editor and Senior Editor of Canadian Underwriter between 2005 and 2012. Before returning to the publication, he worked as a Communications Consultant at the Insurance Institute of Canada. Previously, he was a communications adviser with Ontario’s legal regulator, the Law Society of Upper Canada. From 2001-2004, he was a staff writer and copy editor for Law Times, a weekly newspaper for the legal profession in Ontario, as well as a regular contributor to Canadian Lawyer magazine.
