How to Navigate the
Media Environment in 2022

Kevin Carmichael is Editor-in-Chief of the Financial Post and editor of FP Economy, the Post’s weekly newsletter on economics and policy. His journalism career began at The Canadian Press in the late 1990s. He’s also written for Bloomberg News, the Globe and Mail, Canadian Business, Maclean’s magazine, NBC News, and the Centre for International Governance Innovation. He’s worked from Halifax, Nova Scotia; Ottawa (twice); Washington, D.C. (twice); Mumbai; and Montreal. Kevin joined the Financial Post as National Business Columnist in 2018 and was appointed editor-in-chief in December 2021. His various awards and designations include a Gold in commentary at SABEW Canada’s Best in Business competition in 2019 and an honourable mention in that category in 2020. Kevin is a native of New Brunswick and has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from Carleton University in Ottawa.

Barbara Shecter is a journalist at the National Post and Financial Post, based in Toronto. She has been a news and business reporter for more than 25 years, covering issues ranging from the most complex regulatory overhaul of the banking sector since the 1980s to the battle for supremacy in Canada’s pork processing industry. Her chronicling of business news has taken her on travels across Canada and beyond to cover stories including federal budgets, broadcast regulation, and the Chicago criminal trial of former media baron Conrad Black. In recent years, she has worked increasingly on telling stories on multimedia platforms as well as in print and has reached new readers through social media. She has appeared on radio, television, video, and podcasts as a commentator and was one of three finalists for the CFA Society of Toronto’s Journalist of the Year in 2015. Barbara is also an instructor and writing coach at The University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies and Ryerson University’s School of Journalism.

Marcel Wieder combines a background in advertising with a passion for public affairs to help his clients craft and deliver powerful messages. As head of Arrow Communications Group, a public affairs and strategic communications firm he founded nearly twenty years ago, Wieder has helped clients deliver campaigns targeting the right audience with the right message at the right time using the right vehicles. Wieder has been recognized with several prestigious awards including three Pollie Awards (the Oscar for political advertising) and a Summit award for his political ads. He has worked in campaigns at every level and has helped elect over 75% of his clients. Wieder also successfully directed Canada’s largest independent expenditure campaign and has worked at the federal, provincial and municipal level. In addition, he has provided public affairs advice to senior members of government.
