SAFER STEAM BOILERS:

From Minor Burns To Major Events

On Demand until December 11, 2019

Duration:60 minutes

Abstract:

Steam boiler safety concerns have typically been based on the potential for catastrophic explosions.

However, experts suggest that while some types of boilers can be safer than others based on physics (and the potential for explosions), boiler safety is also about everyday burns, bumps, and bruises.

These everyday issues are often about how a boiler is designed and engineered, including size and weight, ease-of-maintenance, accessibility to gauges, and a host of other issues that may increase the potential for serious injury during installation, operation, and maintenance, and make day-to-day operations more time and cost-intensive.

4 LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Not all steam boilers are the same and include both firetube and watertube designs. These designs can impact the potential for catastrophic explosions, as well as affect day-to-day safety concerns.

2. Experts agree that some types of steam boilers are safer than others regarding the potential for catastrophic explosion, as well as the potential for burns and a range of other injuries.

3. Steam Boiler Safety is an everyday concern from installation, to operation, to maintenance, and being aware of the issues that can affect safety is critical to working in a safer environment.

4. Boiler owners and operators no longer have to accept the potential for burns and other “battle scars” as the cost of doing business, once they understand how Miura boilers are “Safer-By-Design.”
