Abstract:

As professionals, social workers exercise judgement and make decisions that require thoughtful reflection and critical thinking.  When addressing ethical issues, moral problems are rarely black and white. An ethical decision-making framework is a guide to facilitate informed ethical decision-making in the face of ethically challenging circumstances.

Richard Lavoie is Manager of Registration & Professional Practice with the Manitoba College of Social Work team and is in the final stages of completing his Master of Social Work degree. Richard’s academic focus is dedicated to conceptualizing moral distress from within a Social Work context. He has 12 years of experience in clinical social work practice. His professional portfolio also includes the Manager of Ethics Projects & Education and co-chair of the Manitoba Provincial Health Ethics Network. Richard brings knowledge and experience in ethics education, ethical consultation, resource planning and workshop development and delivery.
