Kathy Stokes

AARP
Kathy Stokes has worked in and around the financial security arena for most of her career. As Director of Fraud Prevention Programs with AARP’s Fraud Watch Network, she leads AARP’s efforts in helping members and other consumers protect themselves and their families from scams and fraud. In addition, Kathy serves as a subject matter expert on Social Security for AARP’s consumer outreach activities.
Prior to joining AARP in 2016, Kathy worked with the Brookings Institution’s Retirement Security Project, the Employee Benefit Research Institute, the American Savings Education Council and Ernst & Young’s national tax group. She also ran her own communications consulting practice for a decade with clients in the financial education and retirement space.
Kathy holds a bachelor’s degree in Rhetoric and Communication from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in American Government from the Johns Hopkins University.

Amy is the Director of the Fraud Watch Network Helpline, a nationwide toll-free Helpline for anyone with concerns about fraud. Additionally Amy works with business outreach, marketing and promotions, volunteers and staff management, technological coordination, grant management, and strategic partnerships. She acts as AARP’s Fraud Watch Network spokesperson for media inquiries and subject matter expert opportunities. Amy has worked with The New York Times, Dr. Phil, Live with Kelly and Ryan, Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Consumer Reports, Yahoo News, and many other publications on helping to shed light on fraud and exploitation of older adults.
Amy has a degree in criminology/sociology from Ohio University and a certificate in gerontology from the University of Denver. She graduated from Regis University with a Master of Arts degree with specialization in leadership.
Jay Haapala
Associate State Director - Community Engagement
AARP Minnesota
Jay Haapala is Associate State Director of Community Engagement with AARP Minnesota and leads the Fraud Watch Network program which serves to educate consumers about fraud, scams and identity theft. He and AARP Fraud Fighter volunteers have met with hundreds community groups across the state, law enforcement officials and fraud investigators, learning how people are being targeted right here and now in Minnesota. He has worked and served in the Minnesota nonprofit sector for 20 years building volunteer programs, and now is doing the same to build a network of Fraud Fighters with AARP.
