Abstract:

The Sensor Open System Architecture (SOSA™) Technical Standard applies open-architecture concepts to high-performance defense sensor systems such as radar, electronic warfare, and SIGINT platforms. The goal of the standard is to design a non-propriety open systems architecture based on DoD-relevant government or commercially available open standards to lower system development costs, and make system reconfigurability and future system upgrades easier and faster, thus improving overall C4ISR capabilities. A key part of the developing technical standard will be how to ensure conformance to the standard is met for hardware or SOSA modules claiming alignment with the Technical Standard.

During this webinar, the SOSA Consortium experts will discuss the current status of the Technical Standard, what the upcoming 1.0 release means for conforming to the standard, and how you should approach SOSA conformance for your products.

Patrick Collier is Senior Open Systems Architect and systems engineer at Aspen Consulting Group. Patrick Collier focuses on the development and use of open architectures for both space and non-space applications. Previously he was a lead hardware engineer at PMA-209 NAVAIR, where he focused on the development of the Hardware Open Systems Technology (HOST) set of standards. His first assignment was as a senior electrical research engineer with the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate. While at AFRL, he founded the Next Generation Space Interconnect Standard (NGSIS) with Raphael Some (NASA JPL). Patrick also founded and is currently chair for the VITA 78 (SpaceVPX) and VITA 78.1 (SpaceVPXLite) efforts. He is also a cofounder of the Sensor Open System Architecture (SOSA) and chair of its Hardware Sub-Committee and Conformance Standing Committee. Additionally, he was a lead for the Space Universal Modular Architecture (SUMO), where he worked to incorporate existing space-related standards and architectures into SUMO.

Sue Harper

Manager of Standards and Certifications

The Open Group

Susan Harper is the Manager of Standards and Certifications at The Open Group and works with Forums and Consortiums to develop Technical Standards and respective Certification programs. Susan specializes in executable standards that define product certifications. Executable standards drive market adoption of a particular standard. The associated certification program supports this adoption by showing tangible proof in the form of certified products in the ecosystem. Susan has been in Information Technology for over 30 years and has been a PMP for over six years. In addition to working with the SOSA Consortium on their Technical Standard and conformance program, she works with The Open Group's Open Process Automation and the Open Subsurface Data Universe Forums doing the same. She is the Certification Authority for the FACE Conformance program and the O-TTPS Supply Chain Security Certification program as well as The Open Group’s subject matter expert on the O-TTPS standard. She is also working with the FACE Consortium to develop and accredit their training courses.
