Steven Raffuel
President
The Raffuel Surety Group
Steve’s industry career began after graduation from Niagara University in 1977 as a new hire of what was then Aetna Casualty & Surety (now Travelers Casualty & Surety Company of America) progressing through a series of promotions and culminating in a Home Office stint in Hartford managing large construction accounts throughout NY, NJ, Pa and Ohio. In 1985 he relocated to New Jersey and began what is now a 30+ year career as a professional surety agent/broker.
Over this time he has garnered extensive experience with all types of construction companies on a regional, and in some cases national, basis. Road and highway contractors, building trades, mechanical, electrical, concrete and masonry, structural steel, power plant construction and development, sewer/water lines, tunneling, wastewater and water treatment, roofing, site excavation, glass/glazing, marine construction and dredging. We’ve pretty much seen them all.
We’ve also been heavily involved with the placement of surety programs for start-up companies and companies on the verge of a significant leap forward in project size and/or complexity. In each case they benefited from the many years of experience and the unique position of having watched many contractors in operation, learning what works, what doesn’t and why.
Not insignificantly to a client or prospective customer is the selection and relationship enjoyed with the surety companies we represent. The trust built up over years of successful interaction ultimately benefits our customer. Our opinion and evaluation carries more weight and allows for greater flexibility in the delivery of outstanding surety support to you.
In 2011 Steve ventured out to start Raffuel Surety Group with the goal of building a company who lives by their motto: “Working together for your success”. Almost simultaneously he recognized to evolution of project delivery systems and co-founded The Surety Alliance, a global inter-dependent network of highly skilled and motivated surety brokers throughout the Americas, Europe and South Africa.
