Hardening 4.0: An Evolution in Quenching Explained

On Demand Until June 4, 2021

Duration:60 minutes

Abstract:

As industry evolves into the digital age through Industry 4.0, heat treating is experiencing an evolution of its own. More complex part geometries, increased hardness requirements, more restrictive quality control, and the ever-present concern for cost is pushing quenching technology into previously uncharted territory. Join us as we investigate the history of quenching technology beginning with the single operator, a direct fired box furnace, and a water tank moving through the impact of the integrated quench atmosphere furnace to vacuum quenching followed by the exciting developments with single piece flow hardening!

Four Learning Objectives

  1. Basic principles of ferrous metal hardening
  2. The important role of the integral quench furnace in the evolution of quenching technology
  3. Cost savings/process improvements with combining vacuum heating and atmosphere quenching
  4. Unique advantages of single piece flow
