Abstract:
Although Denver’s street grid may have its detractors, most streets have only one name. One primary corridor, however, has two. It’s time to explore University Blvd. Known as York Street in its northern extent, it has simple beginnings at the Weld County line as a country road of prairie slowly turning into subdivisions. We’ll explore southward, through the dizzying array of Thornton’s modern, not-so-sensible grid, through Denver and onto University Boulevard, which eventually vanishes in Highlands Ranch. Along the way are cemeteries, neighborhoods changing their flavors, mid-century prosperity, central-city diversity and more. From the university that gives the street its name to places and histories great and small, there’s a lot to see as the road gives up its secrets.

Speakers
Kevin Snow Kevin Snow started his career as an ESL teacher. The last school he taught at worked with adult immigrants from more than seventy countries around the world. He began to show them around Denver, introducing them to their new homes, sharing his interest in history. When that school closed, he decided to continue as a tour guide, running Denver History Tours and now Treasure Box Tours. Today, Kevin leads tours around the metro area, the state and region, as well as two (so far!) trips out of the country. He may grow up one day, but for now there's too much fun to be had on the sidewalks (in person or electronically) of the city.
