DESCRIPTION:During the January 2025 MUA/P Interest Group Session, Kerrie Jordan, DIO for the Kansas City University GME Consortium, Dr. Ted Zwerdling, DIO for Healthy Rural California, Inc., and Kristy Bird MaKieve, CEO and GME Administrator for Healthy Rural California, Inc. will present “Partnerships in Underserved GME: Consortium Models.” Following the presentation, participants will have Q/A with the speakers and engage in large group discussion. This call is part of a series of one-hour Zoom calls that are held monthly and are open to the entire GME community. The aim of these interest group sessions is for the community to learn about efforts in GME and MUA/P, to solve for common challenges, and to share helpful knowledge and resources. During these calls, institutional and program GME leaders will connect with their peers through discussion and will have an interface with the ACGME to build information and knowledge on various topics of relevance to the GME community.
Speakers
 Kerrie J. Jordan, BS, MS, DHSc, FAOGME DIO Kansas City University GME Consortium Dr. Kerrie J. Jordan is the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for the Kansas City University (KCU) Graduate Medical Education (GME) Consortium and Director of the GME and Continuing Medical Education (CME) Departments. She is also an assistant professor of clinical education at the KCU College of Osteopathic Medicine, Chair of the GMEC, Vice-Chair of the CME Committee, and an active member of university committees. Dr. Jordan consults for the Rural Residency Program Development (RRPD) and Teaching Health Center Planning and Development (THCPD) Technical Assistance Center (TAC). She is an AMA Health Systems Science Scholar and Fellow of the Assembly of Osteopathic Graduate Medical Education (AOGME).
Her expertise includes ACGME program development, accreditation navigation, policy creation, due process, and corrective action. She is a published author, national speaker, and professional leader dedicated to advancing medical education standards.
Dr. Jordan credits her success to her background in customer service and logistics, which honed her problem-solving and interpersonal skills. She is passionate about mentoring others to achieve professional growth and career satisfaction. Her interests include resident remediation, GME finance, conflict resolution, and emotional intelligence. Outside of work, she enjoys family time and relaxing at the beach. Dr. Jordan has no conflicts of interest or relevant financial relationships related to her presentations or programs.
 Kristy Bird MaKieve, MBA, CAE CEO and GME Administrator Healthy Rural California, Inc. A social entrepreneur at heart, Kristy Bird MaKieve founded Healthy Rural California, Inc. to provide solutions for Butte County and the rural and underserved region north of Sacramento. As Healthy Rural California’s CEO and GME Administrator, Kristy led the development of a new medical education pathways centered in Chico. These include a Community Psychiatry and a Family Medicine Residency in an innovative consortium model. Kristy is also the Executive Director of Butte-Glenn Medical Society and North Valley Medical Association in Redding which are now fiscally managed by Healthy Rural California. The rural and underserved region of Northern California has some of the highest ACES scores, overdose rates, opioid subscription rates, and worsening access to care and mental health care in the State.
Kristy earned an MBA at UC Davis Graduate School of Management and a BA with double majors in English and Art History from Barnard College of Columbia University of New York City. She is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) through the ASAE and a member of CalSAE. Kristy has previously worked at UC Davis Health, the California Medical Association, UC Davis Graduate School of Management and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, the California School Boards Association, GraphXStaff, Aquent, the Japan Society of Boston and Art Education for the Blind. She also taught English in Japan for two years primarily in the Nara-Ken area. Kristy and her husband, Dan MaKieve, MD, are the founding Legacy Partners for Healthy Rural California’s Planned Giving fund. They live in Sacramento and enjoy being in the forests of Tahoe and exploring the world as often as they can.
 Ted Zwerdling, MD DIO Healthy Rural California, Inc. Ted Zwerdling serves as the Designated Institutional Official for Healthy Rural California (HRC), Inc, located in Chico, California, where he was part of the team initiating ACGME accredited programs for the Sponsoring Institution and the Psychiatry and Family Medicine programs. As a consortium model located in a GME naive and medical desert region of the state, he has worked with the team on all aspects of program development, operational implementation, recruitment, and hiring faculty. He also serves as faculty for both training programs. Prior to working in GME development, he practiced Pediatric Hematology/Oncolgy at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center (Cincinnati, Ohio) and University of California, Davis Medical Center (Sacramento, California). He trained in subspecialty medicine at Stanford University. Currently, he also practices Palliative Care in Clearlake, California. His academic career has spanned over 40 years, records multiple publications and grant funded research in areas of pediatric cancer, pediatric sickle cell diseases, and pediatric end of life care. He also serves on the Board of Healthy Rural California, Inc. and in the past, as medical director for several pediatric hospice programs. He has been a member on multiple institutions’ medical student, resident, and fellowship selection committees.
