Lance Hosey, FAIA, LEED Fellow, is a Design Director and Global Co-Director of Design Resilience with Gensler. He has authored two books, contributed to several others, and published hundreds of essays on design for the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Huffington Post, and many other media outlets.
A popular public speaker, he has spoken at TED and keynoted SXSW Eco, the Idea Festival, and many other events, addressing a cumulative audience of over 25,000 people. His latest book, The Shape of Green: Aesthetics, Ecology, and Design (Island Press, 2012), has won a New York Book Show Award, has been Amazon’s #1 bestseller for sustainable design, and was listed among the three dozen books “all designers should read” (Environmental Building News).
As of 2015, he was one of only 30 people in the world to be named a Fellow with both the American Institute of Architects and the US Green Building Council.

Alex Wilson

Resilient Design Institute
Alex Wilson is president of the Resilient Design Institute, a nonprofit organization in Brattleboro, Vermont that seeks to advance the adoption of resilient design into buildings and communities. He also works part-time for BuildingGreen, Inc., the consulting and information company he founded in 1985.
A biologist by training, Alex is a widely published writer on energy, green building, resilience, and the environment. He has written hundreds of articles for dozens of magazines, and he is the author or coauthor of several books, including Your Green Home (New Society Publishing, 2006), The Consumer Guide to Home Energy Savings (American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, first published in 1990 and now in its 10th edition, 2013), Green Development: Integrating Ecology and Real Estate (John Wiley, 1998), and the BuildingGreen Guide to Insulation (2017).
Alex served on the national board of the U.S. Green Building Council from 2000 – 2005 and in 1993 received the organization’s Leadership Award for Education; in 2010 he received the second annual Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership in Sustainability.
Alex and his wife live in Dummerston, Vermont in a 200-year-old farmhouse that they renovated in 2013 to achieve net-zero-energy performance and demonstrate sustainability and resilience. Alex is also an avid paddler who has written four quiet water paddling guides for the Appalachian Mountain Club, and he is currently updating the AMC Quiet Water Canoe and Kayak Guide to New York State.
Greg Mella

Greg Mella, FAIA, LEED AP BD+C, is a Vice President and Director of Sustainable Design at SmithGroupJJR. He was the architect behind two landmark projects for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation: the Merrill Center (First LEED Platinum building in the world) and the Brock Center (the tenth project in the world to achieve full Living Building certification). Greg is currently designing the Maritime Center of Excellence at the US Coast Guard Academy. Greg frequently shares his sustainability expertise at national conferences including Living Future, GreenBuild, and the AIA Convention. Greg is a registered architect in Maryland, Virginia, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia.
