Chip Downing is the Senior Market Development Director of Aerospace and Defense at Real-Time Innovations (RTI). In this position he manages RTI’s global aerospace and defense business and helps drive the RTI Connext product, now used in over 1,500 global systems, into the commercial and military aerospace market.
Mr. Downing currently serves as the VP, Ecosystem of the DDS Foundation, where he is tasked with growing the sphere of influence of the OMG DDS standard with organizations that have companion specifications. In addition, he also serves as the Chair of the FACE Consortium BWG Outreach Subcommittee, promoting the FACE approach globally.
A veteran of the embedded systems industry and an innovator for creating COTS safety certification for commercial RTOSs, he previously served as Senior Director of Aerospace & Defense at Wind River Systems, where he was responsible for the business development of the company’s global A&D markets. During his 14-year Wind River tenure, design wins grew for certified avionics products grew to more than 500 projects. Mr. Downing has also led sales, marketing, and consulting organizations at Esterel Technologies (now Ansys), Validated Software, OnCore Systems, and Mentor Graphics (now Siemens).

Mr. Vance Hilderman is a 30-year safety-critical engineering expert recognized to be one of the world’s top authorities on software certification. Holding a BSEE and MBA from Gonzaga, and a Masters in Computer Engineering from USC (Hughes Fellow), Mr. Hilderman founded TekSci which successfully became the largest independent avionics/safety-critical software services company in the world;
Mr. Hilderman has consulted with ninety five of the world’s one hundred largest aerospace companies plus numerous automotive, medical, industrial and telecommunications entities. Mr. Hilderman also the lead founder of HighRely Inc, a safety-critical software certification consultancy which was acquired by Atego/Artisan in 2011.
Mr. Hilderman founded AFuzion whose 40 senior engineers today assist the world’s leading technology companies to optimize software and products for safety-critical operations including aircraft, UAV’s, flying cars, military systems, and satellites. He has personally trained over 23,000 engineers in creating safety-critical standards deployment for optimized software, hardware, and systems in 30 countries.
Today, Mr. Hilderman makes his home in Los Angeles and Manhattan, manages AFuzion’s engineers, and continually participates in software/computer forums providing keynote addresses and training at a wide variety of safety-critical systems events 2-3 times per month.
