Ellen Schutt

Ellen Schutt is the Executive Director of GOED, the Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s. Ellen has been with the company for seven years, and now oversees all aspects of the organization’s mission to increase consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3s as well as to protect the category by ensuring GOED members are manufacturing quality products that consumers can trust.

Ellen previously directed GOED’s communications strategy for industry and consumers and was instrumental in organizing a successful consumer education campaign in 2015. She continues to work on high level initiatives such as building a healthcare professional education program and coordinating the efforts of GOED’s Executive Council on Education and Outreach, which funds many of GOED’s strategic initiatives.

With 20 years of experience in the natural products industry, Ellen is the former editor of Nutraceuticals World magazine, an industry trade publication, and owner of Schutt Solutions, a consulting business focused on supporting growth in the dietary supplement industry.

William S. Harris, PhD, FAHA

President and CEO

Dr. Harris is an internationally recognized expert on omega-3 fatty acids and how they can benefit patients with heart disease. He obtained his Ph.D. in Human Nutrition from the University of Minnesota and did post-doctoral fellowships in Clinical Nutrition and Lipid Metabolism with Dr. Bill Connor at the Oregon Health Sciences University.

His interest in omega-3 fatty acids began with his postdoctoral work when he published his first study on the effects of salmon oil on serum lipids in humans (1980). Since that time he has been the recipient of five NIH grants for studies on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) on human health. He has more than 300 publications relating to fatty acids, including omega-3s, in medical literature and was an author on two American Heart Association scientific statements on fatty acids: “Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease” (2002), and “Omega-6 Fatty Acids and Risk for Cardiovascular Disease” (2009) both published in the journal Circulation.

Dr. Harris is a Professor in the Department of Medicine in the Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota and the President and CEO of OmegaQuant.

Amin Talati Wasserman

Katie Bond, a partner in the law firm Amin Talati Wasserman, provides regulatory counseling and litigation support in matters involving a variety of consumer products, including dietary supplements, foods, and cosmetics and sports equipment. She regularly reviews product labeling and advertising to determine compliance with federal regulations. As needed, she assists clients in identifying and working with well-credentialed, independent scientific experts to ensure that claims are properly substantiated.

With over 15 years’ experience in ingredient manufacturing and consumer goods, he has been especially focused on dietary supplements and the natural products industry. His background in both Economics and Chemistry give him a unique perspective on Lipids manufacturing. He’s also something of a fish nut; Sam is passionate about encouraging people to eat more seafood and take more Omega-3 Fish Oil, yet make conscious, informed choices for sustainable seafood.
