Pamela Haines

Chef & Owner

Sweet Peaches

Today’s guest chef is Miss Pamela Haines. Chef Pam is the owner and chef of Sweet Peaches located in Louisville Kentucky. She opened the doors 8 years ago and has been going strong ever since. Chef Pamela is the 7th of 11 children and has been cooking since she was 5 years old when she made her first dish of hot water cornbread for the family. She was born and raised in Louisville and has 3 children. In April 2019, Chef Pamela teamed up with The African-American Think Tank to give out 200 hams and distribute Easter baskets for kids. Everyone who showed up to get a ham also received a free plate lunch. In April 2020, she began offering free soup to people in west Louisville every Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help boost the immune systems of anyone in the area. Haines said her decision to give out free food came after she saw reports on how the African American community is contracting and dying from the coronavirus faster than any other community. Like many small business owners, the pandemic has taken a toll economically, but said she felt like she wanted to do something to help the community. She says, “It’s not about the money. It’s about meeting the needs of the people in the neighborhood. People need something wholesome to eat.” She continues to offer the soup every Wednesday. Chef Pam has a Bachelor’s degree, a double masters in both business management and business administration and is currently working on her doctorate from Indiana Wesleyan. She has worked as a finance manager, events director and food and beverage manager but her heart is in cooking. In addition to running the restaurant, Chef Pam does catering for groups up to 1000 people. She partnered with One West to feed 400 people with a dinner to go on September 22nd and on Sundays, she offers a dinner that can feed a family of 6 for $50 and that includes dessert! “She has a kind heart and good spirit” says DeAnna Daniels. Sweet Peaches is located at 1800 W Muhammad Ali Blvd, and is open from noon to 4 p.m., except on Wednesday’s when she gives out free soup.
