Dr. Hal King is Managing Partner at Active Food Safety, an advisory services company for the foodservice industry, and Founder/CEO of Public Health Innovations, a public health strategy and product design company. He is a public health professional who has worked in the investigation of respiratory, foodborne, and other disease outbreaks at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, performed federally funded research on the causation and prevention of infectious diseases at Emory University School of Medicine's Division of Infectious Diseases, and worked in the prevention of intentional adulteration of foods and food defense with the U.S. Army Reserves Consequence Management Unit, 20th CBRNE Command. Dr. King has published four books on food safety management, with the latest being Food Safety Leadership in the Business of Food Safety. He is also the co-author and author of numerous food business trade articles to help the food industry prevent foodborne disease outbreaks, several peer-reviewed scientific research articles, and book chapters on allergen prevention and other public health interventions. He holds several U.S. patents, copyrights, and trademarks related to food safety management. Dr. King is the recipient of the 2018 NSF International Food Safety Leadership and Innovation Award.

Steven is a senior executive with over 40 years of business experience. Prior to joining CM Systems (ComplianceMate), he held executive level positions with Bristol-Myers Squibb, Henry Schein Inc., and Schein Pharmaceutical Inc., as well as several emerging companies. His experience has been with companies that are subject to, or whose customers are subject to, significant government regulations. He has also acted as a senior-level consultant to and board member for emerging companies, including those in the food industry. Steven graduated from Long Island University and attended NYU’s Stern Business School.

Barbara VanRenterghem, Ph.D., is the editorial director of Food Safety Magazine, a position she has held since 2008. From 2005–2008, she was the chief editor of Controlled Environments Magazine and the science editor of Animal Lab News and Lab Manager Magazine at Vicon Publishing. At Eaton Publishing (1999–2005), she rose from the positions of assistant scientific editor for BioTechniques and acquisitions editor for BioTechniques Press to the editor of content development and acquisitions and director of commercial product development. While at Eaton (then acquired by Informa), she served as the chief editor of Preclinica. She received a B.Sc. in biology in 1989 from Bowling Green State University and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1994 from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
