Abstract:
Whether it's hardware, operating systems, or access control devices, so many security systems become outdated and less effective, in part because the upgrade or migration process can be so daunting. Sometimes when you don’t know where to start, it’s just easier not to. With proper planning and assessment, system upgrades and migrations can lead to a powerful and valuable business intelligence tool. In this webinar, we will walk participants through best practices. From understanding what you have to prioritize, where to start, and whom to involve in the process, we will lay out the best practices and a process for successful system upgrades and migrations. We will also discuss what factors impact price, how to best secure a budget, and what kinds of data can be used from an optimized system. Participants will be able to:
- Understand the role of audits and pre-planning
- Identify the appropriate internal team for a system upgrade or migration
- Develop an upgrade strategy
- Evaluate their current system and address any needed design changes

Brendan McFall Operations Manager Northland Controls Named to the Security Systems News’ 40 Under 40 list, this St. Mary’s College of Maryland graduate stumbled into the security industry. Brendan’s career began in 2014 as the Executive Assistant (EA) at Northland Controls. After a year of serving as an EA, he was promoted to Project Manager. While managing projects up and down the East Coast, McFall earned his Certified Security Project Manager (CSPM) certification from SIA. Soon after, McFall began helping build Northland’s Professional Services Department as a Technical Project Manager where he gained in-depth knowledge of security technology deployments and capabilities. Brendan has served as chair of the Security Industry Association (SIA) RISE Steering Committee in 2018, joined the Professional Security Alliance (PSA) Leadership Committee in 2019, and became a board member of the Foundation for Advancing Security Talent (FAST) in 2020. He is currently the East Coast Operations Manager at Northland Controls.
