Abstract:

Join First Book and GM for February's STEM Careers all Year virtual reading event where you'll hear about how creativity plays a role in STEM! Theogene (Theo) Lavergne, Jr. and Cedric Stokes, both from GM will share how their early interest in tinkering with toys, being creative and enjoyment in inventing led them to their careers in STEM at General Motors. Both Cedric and Theo will share about their journey, who inspired them to keep on creating and what STEM means to them today.

Join us for this hour-long event to hear from Theo and Cedric and the story Whoosh! Lonnie Johnson's Super-Soaking Stream of Inventions, written by Chris Barton and illustrated by Don Tate. Find out how the Super-Soaker, one of the top 20 toys of all time accidentally invented. Trying to create a new cooling system for refrigerators and air conditioners, impressive inventor Lonnie Johnson instead created the mechanics for the iconic toy.
