Webinar Overview:
Join us for this informative webinar to discover how the largest water utility in Maine, Portland Water District, partners with ten conservation organizations through Sebago Clean Waters coalition to conserve forested land in the Sebago Lake watershed. Learn how their shared goal of conserving 35,000 acres of high-priority forestland will help protect the drinking water supply for nearly 220,000 Mainers while providing a host of other benefits, including enhancement of climate-resilient landscapes, wildlife habitat, recreational access, and the local economy.
Presented by Paul Thomas Hunt, Environmental Manager at Portland Water District, Portland, ME and Karen Young, Partnership Director, Sebago Clean Waters.
Speakers
Paul Hunt Environmental Manager Portland Water District Paul Hunt has been the Environmental Manager for the Portland Water District, Maine’s largest water and wastewater utility, since 1999. For the first five years he thought his job was to protect Sebago Lake, the District’s source. That was and is a big part of it. But since then he has also been working with many others to protect both the lake AND the quarter-million acres of forests that carpet the lake watershed since those forests are the critical first step in the treatment process. He has geology degrees from the University of Maine at Farmington and the University of Oregon.
Karen Young Partnership Director Sebago Clean Waters Karen Young, Partnership Director for Sebago Clean Waters, guides the collaboration of the eleven Sebago Clean Waters partners in protecting the Sebago Lake watershed through voluntary forestland conservation and other watershed protection measures. Her multi-faceted work includes coalition coordination, fundraising, communications, and fostering business and community partnerships. Karen holds a Master of Environmental Management from the Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment. Karen loves spending time outdoors with her two teens and husband.
