Importance of Pre-Engineered Control Systems for Complex Designs

Abstract:

HVAC system design requirements are constantly changing, and customers are pushing consulting engineers to address evolving challenges like IAQ and increased efficiency. On top of these customer requirements, consulting engineers need to adhere to building codes and utilize industry guidelines (e.g. ASHRAE Guideline 36) in their designs. Pre-engineered control applications, like those built into Tracer building automation systems, account for efficiency, IAQ, building codes and more right out of the box. During this webinar, we will discuss ways that pre-engineered applications can:

  • Reduce risk during implementation
  • Limit need for owner training 
  • Improve user experience and efficiency

We will also discuss examples of industry trends for standardizing specific applications, such as airside and waterside systems.

Brian Meyers

Senior Product Manager

Brian Meyers is a Senior Product Manager within Trane’s Controls organization. Brian has product responsibility for Tracer SC/SC+/Synchrony and Legacy Tracer Communications Bridges. Additionally, Brian drives and supports products and offerings that span across controls products lines in areas that include cloud connectivity, cyber security, and others. Brian began his career with Trane Commercial Systems in 2005 as a System Applications Engineer focused on System Integration. In this role, Brian gained significant knowledge related to industry protocols and competitive control systems. Additionally, in this role, Brian participated as a member of numerous industry organizations, including ASHRAE, where he became a voting member within the SSPC135 (BACnet) working group. In 2011, Brian transitioned into Product Management and has managed several products and services since that time. Brian graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a Bachelor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Brian has participated in ongoing education throughout Product Management, Product Development, and other disciplines. Brian currently resides in St. Paul, MN where he spends time outside work with his wife and children. With two young children, most of Brian’s spare time is taken up chauffeuring his children back and forth from their activities. When a rare bit of free time does surface, Brian enjoys playing golf and hockey.

Brian Kirkman

System Application Engineer

Brian Kirkman is a System Applications Engineer for Trane Technologies within the Applied and Sourced Solutions Group based in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Brian’s primary focus is on system optimization, applied solutions, fulfillment efficiency improvements, and application development. Brian graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul with a bachelor’s degree in physics and began his career as an electrical designer for an electrical contractor in St. Paul. After several years in the electrical industry, he and his family moved to Columbia, Missouri where Brian worked as a Construction Project Manager at the University of Missouri. In 2012, Brian and his family moved back to Minnesota where he came to Trane as a Project Manager in the Twin Cities sales office. He then transitioned to the Controls Field Group Leader role in the sales office prior to moving into his current role in White Bear Lake in 2018.

Tony Bruno

Applied Solutions Leader

Tony Bruno leads the Applied and Sourced Solutions team for Trane in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Tony’s team has responsibility for developing and standardizing solutions for system integration and high-performance HVAC system optimization. Tony and team also provide second level support to Trane’s field offices for strategic and complex projects. Tony began his career with Trane in 2000 and attended the 2000-II Trane Graduate Training program. In 2005 Tony joined the Controls Products team as an Applications Engineer and has held various roles since. Tony participates in several industry associations, including ASHRAE, where he has served on Guideline 36, Guideline 22, and Standard 231P. Tony holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University and is an avid Cyclone fan. In his spare time Tony enjoys playing golf and bowling, where he has won several championships.
