Abstract:
With increased sustainability reporting and momentum towards standardization, it is critical for assurance providers to be aware of the impacts to their clients’ business activities and assurance needs. Join CPA Canada and the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) for a:
- Refresher on the developments in Canada and globally related to sustainability reporting and assurance, including relevant regulatory and standards updates and trends
- Overview of an auditor’s current responsibilities related to financial statement audits and the assurance options available today
- Introduction to the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board’s newly proposed International Standard on Sustainability Assurance (ISSA) 5000, General Requirements for Sustainability Assurance Engagements. Additionally, we’ll cover the AASB’s project to adopt ISSA 5000 concurrently in Canada as Canadian Standard on Sustainability Assurance (CSSA) 5000.

Grace Gilewicz, CPA Principal CPA Canada Grace is a principal at CPA Canada within the Research, Guidance and Support group. In this role, she develops guidance and thought leadership for CPAs related to audit and assurance matters. Grace works collaboratively with external stakeholders, volunteers and subject matter experts to provide practical, understandable and timely guidance. This includes implementation guidance for new and complex audit and assurance standards; resources regarding the impact of technology on the audit and assurance profession; and assurance implications of emerging forms of external reporting, including sustainability reporting.
Amalia Spensieri, CPA, CA Principal Auditing and Assurance Standards Board Amalia is a principal with the Auditing and Assurance Standards Group. She is the lead on several auditing and assurance standards projects, including the sustainability and other extended external reporting assurance project. Amalia contributes to the development of projects by carrying out research and communication activities, as well as providing the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) with analysis of issues and technical advice. Recently, Amalia served as a professional advisor at CPA Ontario where she helped members navigate ethical standards, accounting and assurance standards, and practice management challenges. Prior to this, Amalia worked at Grant Thornton LLP in the Professional Standards Group. She specialized in assurance learning and methodology implementation.
