AI/machine learning can be a boon to the Edge of the IoT if implemented properly. That sounds easy, but it has the potential to be mystifying. With the compute power that’s now available at the Edge, most calculations can be handled locally. While that doesn’t eliminate Cloud interaction completely, it certainly reduces the dependency. This webinar will drill down on gathering requirements for an AI/ML system at the Edge and look at what’s needed to make this technology a reality.

With over 25 years of experience running embedded systems, wireless communications, and algorithm development businesses, Chris has led high caliber teams at companies ranging from Intel to startups. Chris focuses on building and supporting teams capable of bringing cutting edge technologies to reality, delivering results, and customer value quickly. Prior to spinning out SensiML from Intel, Chris was general manager of Intel’s Quark/Curie machine learning software tools business and held prior positions as product line manager turning around Intel’s $750M business in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules. An engineer at heart, Chris started his career in automotive test/measurement as both developer and end-user of IoT systems well before the term came into vogue, building bespoke embedded systems for Michelin Tire and then as a consultant to test vendors for GM and Ford. He holds a bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon’s Tepper School of Business.

Chris Ni is the head of the product team and a co-founder of Neousys Technology. He has a Master’s degree in Computer Science and 20+ years of experience in creating industrial embedded and ruggedized computing platforms. As a pioneer in GPU AI-assisted embedded computing, Chris and his team designed one of the first true wide-temperature industrial-grade GPU-aided platforms and he has strengthened the product line over the years to employ various deep-learning accelerators, including VPU, edge TPU and GPU, for edge AI applications. Chris’ intuitive industry insights, engineering design know-how and understanding of application software have helped Neousys products thrive across various vertical industries to become a renowned brand name.

Jim Shaw

Jim joined Crystal Group in January 2006 as vice president of Engineering. In 2011, he became executive vice president of Engineering. As the head of the Engineering and Quality departments, Jim oversees all product design, development and test standards, technology innovation, and quality management. Jim’s innovative design prowess pioneered the rugged server chassis used to deliver seamless performance in harsh edge environments for the military and industrial computing markets. The company expanded on this industry-changing technology to expand into its current array of high-performance compute solutions. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Iowa State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Iowa. Prior to joining Crystal Group, Jim was an Engineering manager at Rockwell Collins where he was a three-time Rockwell Collins Engineer of the Year nominee for his work in high-performance electronics packaging. He has authored or co-authored 10 international patents.
