With the Federal Reserve’s most recent rate hike pushing the fed fund rate to between 2% and 2.25%, and the projections for another rate hike in December, navigating the fixed-income ETF marketplace looks challenging. This webcast will feature experts from First Trust, Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM), and BNY Mellon on ways to navigate the current environment for today and tomorrow.

Jeremiah Charles

Senior Vice President Portfolio Manager
First Trust Advisors Mortgage Securities Team

Jeremiah Charles is a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager for the First Trust Advisors Mortgage Securities Team. Jeremiah has over 14 years of investment, trading and capital markets experience. In his role at First Trust, he co-manages the First Trust Low Duration Opportunities ETF, the First Trust Mortgage Income Fund and several other MBS-related sleeves of multisector fund approaches.

Prior to joining First Trust in 2013, Jeremiah spent the majority of his career as a Senior Portfolio Manager at Deerfield Capital Management, and has also held positions at CRT Capital and Piper Jaffray. Jeremiah has extensive experience managing institutional real estate and mortgage-related assets. He focuses on short- to intermediate-term duration strategies, with particular emphasis on fundamental collateral and credit analysis on a wide array of securitized, mortgage and other real-estate-related assets. His previous responsibilities included managing separate accounts and institutional fixed income portfolios including the Deerfield Capital Management MBS Fund and Deerfield Capital Commercial Real Estate Strategies.

Jeremiah holds a B.S. in Finance from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado and an M.S. in Real Estate Finance with Honors from the Charles H. Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University.

Steve Sachs

Steve Sachs is head of Capital Markets for the Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) business. He joined Goldman Sachs as a managing director in 2015.

Prior to joining the firm, Steve was head of Capital Markets for ProShare Advisors. Before that, he was director of Trading at Diamond Hill Capital Management and Rydex/SGI. Steve has also held senior trading positions at Eagle Asset Management, Bank One Investment Advisors and Nationwide Insurance. Steve earned a BS in Finance from Franklin University in Columbus, OH. He also studied economics at The Ohio State University.

Miguel Alvarez

Product Manager of Exchange Traded Funds

Miguel Alvarez has spent the past decade working with ETP issuers across both the primary and secondary markets. In his current role, he is a member of the ETF product management team focused on product development, ETF capital market analysis, and marketing for BNY Mellon’s ETF business.

Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Miguel was an ETF product specialist at the NYSE, focused on new issuer business development for ETF listings. In addition, he provided consultation to NYSE’s existing ETF issuers in the listing or transfer of ETP products, as well as trading support. Prior to his role at NYSE, Miguel was at J.P. Morgan, serving as both custody product manager for the Americas and ETF product manager. In this capacity, he focused on the development of J.P. Morgan’s ETF program and fund order routing & settlement services for mutual funds. Earlier in his career, Miguel was an ETF product specialist for Citigroup Investor Services.

Miguel holds an MBA in finance from Northeastern University and a B.A. in economics and political science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
