Jean Setzfand

Sr. VP

AARP

Ms. Setzfand is the Senior Vice President of AARP Programs unit that produces interactive educational programming designed to address key life concerns while boosting technology skills for consumers 50+ caring for a loved one, looking for a job, staying independent through safe driving. Additionally, Programs drives towns, counties and cities to be more livable for all ages by providing educational programming and resources aimed at local leaders, policy makers, planners and citizen activists. Additionally, Ms. Setzfand serves on the Advisory Committee on Seniors for the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA). Ms. Setzfand has been with AARP since 2002. Prior to joining AARP, she worked as a strategic management consultant serving domestic and international financial services institutions. At BARRA Strategic Consulting Group (now Casey Quirk, A Deloitte Business), she advised leading asset management firms on matters related to strategic planning, organizational design and new market entry strategies. Her financial security experience was further honed while working at AT Kearney’s Financial Institutions Group. In that capacity she guided banks and insurance companies through organizational redesign, strategic sourcing efforts and the implementation of key performance indicators. Ms. Setzfand started her career at Pricewaterhouse Coopers, in the Corporate Recovery consulting practice. She holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.

Alex Mahadevan

Alex Mahadevan is senior multimedia reporter with the MediaWise project, at which he has trained more than 5,000 students in media literacy and fact-checking. He also crafted the curriculum and helped launch the MediaWise Voter Project. He most recently worked as a data journalist at the personal finance startup The Penny Hoarder. Prior to that, Mahadevan served as the news innovation editor at Observer Media Group.

Derek McGinty

Derek McGinty is a journalist, an award-winning interviewer and a commentator. He got his first job on the air back in 1984 at WHUR radio in Washington DC. From there he went to WAMU-FM where he launched a nationally syndicated daytime talk show on NPR. By the end of the century he’d been a correspondent on the CBS broadcast Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel and HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. After two years in New York as anchor of ABC’s World News Now and World News This Morning, It was back to his hometown of Washington DC to anchor WUSA’s fledgling 7pm local newscast, and later became the station's main anchor until 2015.
