Speakers
Richard J. Wylie, CFA Vice President, Investment Strategy Assante Wealth Management Richard is Vice President, Investment Strategy at Assante Wealth Management and oversees Assante's investment product shelf. He chairs Assante's Investment Committee and performs due diligence on new product offerings. He acts as Assante's liaison with product issuers, promoters and underwriters. He also coordinates Specialty Investment transactions with both Compliance and Assante's trading desk. Richard also publishes regular market and economic commentary for advisors.
Prior to joining Assante in 2000, Richard was the trading floor economist and fixed income analyst at TD Securities. During his six years at TD Securities, he specialized in the areas of economic analysis of the U.S. and Canadian Economies, corporate and government debt, and studies of both the U.S. Federal Reserve and the Bank of Canada. Prior to his tenure at TD Securities, Richard spent five years trading both Foreign Exchange and Money Market securities for Ontario Hydro.
Richard has been a CFA holder since 1994. He received both his B.A. and M.A. in economics from the University of Toronto.
Valerie Markidis Wealth Planning Consultant CI Assante Wealth Management As Wealth Planning Consultant, Wealth Planning Group, Valerie works closely with our team to provide solutions for our clients in the intergenerational transfer of wealth, with a focus on estate planning. Valerie joined CI Assante in 2022, after 14 years of working in two major trust companies, where she had national responsibility for Wills, and actively supported advisors across Canada for interpretation and questions relating to Wills, Powers of Attorney and Trusts.
Prior to her tenure with the trust companies, Valerie worked in private practice where wills and estates was one of her focuses. She is a lawyer with a Bachelor of Law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, and an Honours BA from Queen's University.
Daniel Watts Wealth Planning Consultant CI Assante Wealth Management Daniel Watts is a lawyer whose practice has focused on wills, estates and trusts, and is part of Assante's Wealth Planning Group as a Wealth Planning Consultant.
Daniel's experience includes over 10 years in private practice almost exclusively in estate planning, estate administration, as well as estate litigation, then joining a large company, and then CI Assante in 2020.
He has assisted high net-worth clients with their estate planning which range from simple situations to more complex, often including tax planning, business succession, cottage succession, planning for blended families, or estate planning where a family member has a disability.
His experience in estate administration and estate litigation gives him a unique perspective as to what occurs to a person' estate after they die: the consequences of planning (or lack of planning), and what can go right or go wrong.
He currently serves as the President of the Estate Planning Council of Winnipeg and is a past member of the executive board for the Society of Trust and Estate Planners.
