Avoiding scale, corrosion and microbiological growth — all of which diminish effective heat transfer — is the focus of any water treatment approach for water-contacted process heating and cooling equipment. External and internal treatment of boiler water focuses on removing impurities before the inhibit heat transfer surface. Because they are often open-recirculation cooling systems, cooling tower water systems may require the greatest amount of water treatment -- both in quantity and variation. Process heating and cooling equipment operators need to pay careful attention to their system's waters. Water quality problems can sink your process, your product and your bottom line.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Obtain practical advice on dealing with biological contamination, corrosion and scale in industrial water cooling systems.
  2. Describe how chemical and nonchemical water treatment solutions can help (and hurt!) your system.
  3. Receive tips about who and how to manage the risk of Legionella colonization, particularly in cooling towers.
  4. Discuss the importance of water treatment for cooling tower water systems.
