Abstract:

It’s not the home stretch yet. Lawmakers are gearing up for a busy summer legislative session. It is expected to be dominated by Republican leaders’ determination to move the 12 annual appropriations bills, reauthorize defense programs and take up veterans’ legislation before a seven-week recess starting on July 15.

The heroin epidemic, Zika virus and Puerto Rico’s worsening finances are also expected to be on the agenda. Join Bloomberg Government on June 21 as we discuss what legislation we can expect to cross the finish line before legislators head back to their home towns.

Topics:

  • What’s ahead – What is the likelihood of the 12 appropriations bills and defense reauthorization act getting passed before recess?
  • Impact on Industry—How will your organization be affected by the action (or inaction) of this next month?
  • Trump, Bernie and Hillary—It’s a hard year to get things accomplished on Capitol Hill. What role does the 2016 presidential election play in determining what legislation is passed before the start of recess (and the start of the conventions)?
