She is also Chair of the Minneapolis KPMG Network of Women and a member of 100 Women in Finance.

Deirdre Ellen Fortune

Deirdre is a Tax Partner in KPMG’s Asset Management practice and serves as the National Tax Leader of the Public Investment Management practice. She has more than 20 years of experience and focuses on the tax needs of mutual funds, business development company (BDC) and private equity fund clients with extensive experience in the U.S. and non-U.S. registered and unregistered fund area, financial products and withholding tax implications. Deirdre is also the founder of KPMG women in mutual funds initiatives.

Bud Rein

Bud is a Managing Director in KPMG’s Chicago’s Financial Services tax practice. Prior to his return to KPMG, Bud was a Managing Director and Global Head of Investment Product Tax at a Fortune 100 global financial services firm. In that role, he developed and led a global tax team responsible for providing technical tax support to all product tax functions including tax compliance, advisory, planning, audit defense and FATCA compliance to over 500 financial products including mutual funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, infrastructure funds, fund-of-funds, and non-U.S. funds throughout the funds’ lifecycle. Prior to that, he was a tax partner with KPMG LLP in Chicago where he served a number of the Firm’s largest investment industry clients.

Erik H Corwin

Principal, Corporate, Washington National Tax

Erik Corwin focuses on domestic and international transactional matters, including mergers and acquisitions, dispositions, financings, and restructurings. Erik has extensive experience working with clients in the asset management industry, including private equity funds, other alternative investment funds, and regulated investment companies. Prior to joining KPMG in April 2016, Erik served for four-and-a-half years as Deputy Chief Counsel (Technical) at the Internal Revenue Service. In that role, Erik oversaw the Chief Counsel offices responsible for corporate tax, international tax, financial institutions and products, income tax and accounting, and partnership tax, among others. He also led the IRS’s published guidance program. Before his IRS tenure, Erik was a partner at Ropes & Gray LLP, where he represented private equity funds and public companies with respect to federal tax aspects of mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, and financings; advised creditors and debtors regarding federal tax aspects of workouts and bankruptcy; and served as tax counsel to mutual funds. He was also a previously a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP. He is a member of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation and has served as vice chair and chair-elect of its Corporate Tax Committee. He has also served as a member of the Tax Advisory Group of the Investment Company Institute. Erik is a frequent speaker on tax topics, including at events sponsored by the Tax Executives Institute, American Bar Association Section of Taxation, Practising Law Institute, Federal Bar Association, and Investment Company Institute. Erik has a JD degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the Harvard Law Review. He also has an AM degree from the Department of Government at Harvard University, and an AB degree, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Harvard College.

Carol Kulish

Carol Kulish Harvey is a director in the Federal Legislative and Regulatory Services group of the Washington National Tax (WNT) practice. She provides clients and KPMG LLP professionals with analysis and practical advice on U.S. federal tax legislative and regulatory developments, policies, and issues. Carol also works closely with the Passthroughs group of WNT and has significant experience with a wide range of technical, transactional, and compliance issues associated with the federal income taxation of flow-through entities. In addition to her private sector experience, Carol previously served as a tax counsel for the House Committee on Ways and Means.

Pete is a principal in the Financial Institutions and Products group of KPMG’s Washington National Tax practice. He advises clients on a wide variety of federal income tax matters in the alternative investment sector, with a particular focus on investment funds, structured finance and securitization transactions, and real estate. Prior to joining KPMG, Pete was a tax partner with O’Melveny & Myers LLP, one of the largest global law firms.
