Until recently, it was commonly believed that there was little value in obtaining IP rights in China. The expense of obtaining and maintaining patents and patent applications in China combined with the lack of an effective means for enforcement, made Chinese IP generally an unattractive investment. Over the last decade, however, China has made significant advancements in providing applicants with reasonably cost effective means for both securing and enforcing IP rights. In view of China’s new found wealth and glut of well-trained scientists and engineers, any innovator would be remiss not to include China as part of its IP strategy.
